Ayurvedic treatment for psoriasis, eczema and skin conditions

Itchy, scaly or inflamed skin can affect sleep, work and confidence. Our physicians look for what triggers your flare-ups and plan internal medicines, therapies and diet together.

Signs to look out for

  • Red, thick, scaly patches, often on elbows, knees or scalp (psoriasis)
  • Dry, itchy, cracked or oozing skin (eczema or dermatitis)
  • Raised itchy welts that come and go (urticaria)
  • Acne, dark patches or uneven skin tone
  • Hair fall, dandruff or an itchy scalp
  • Flare-ups linked to stress, weather or certain foods

How Ayurveda understands skin disease

Ayurveda groups most chronic skin conditions under Kushta and links them to the blood (Rakta), digestion and the doshas: Pitta for redness and burning, Kapha for thickening and itching, Vata for dryness and cracking. Psoriasis is commonly compared to Ekakushta or Kitibha. Because the skin reflects digestion and the blood, treatment works from the inside as well as on the skin.

How we treat it at AyurRemedy

Your physician examines your skin, asks about triggers, diet and stress, and reviews any reports. Your plan may include:

  • Internal medicines from our in-house pharmacy
  • Panchakarma such as Virechana, and blood-cleansing approaches (Raktamokshana) where suitable
  • Takradhara, a stream of medicated buttermilk, often used in psoriasis and for stress
  • Medicated oils and pastes (Lepam) for the affected skin
  • Diet and routine advice to reduce flare-ups

For cosmetic concerns such as pigmentation and dull skin, see our cosmetic treatments and the Ayurvedic Hydra Facial.

Questions patients ask

Can Ayurveda help with psoriasis?

Many people with psoriasis use Ayurvedic medicines, Panchakarma, therapies such as Takradhara and diet changes to manage flare-ups. Psoriasis is a long-term condition and responds differently in different people; your physician will explain what to expect for you.

How long before I see a difference?

Skin conditions usually need a few weeks of consistent treatment before changes show, and long-standing conditions may need longer. Your physician will review your progress at follow-up visits.

Should I stop my creams or other skin medicines?

Do not stop prescribed medicines, especially steroid creams or tablets, suddenly or on your own. Bring them to your consultation so your physician can plan around them.

Do you treat hair fall and dandruff too?

Yes. Hair fall, dandruff and scalp conditions are assessed in the same way, looking at diet, stress and general health as well as the scalp.
